2007-2008 Programs

Here's the line-up for the coming year:

SEPTEMBER 11, 2007
CREATING A MAGICAL NIGHT GARDEN
Joshua Dean will speak of night beauty, scent and lighting for small gardens. Winner of the Creative Landscape Design Award at the 2007 Capital Home and Garden Show, Mr. Dean is a Landscape Designer with Merrifield Garden Center.

OCTOBER 9, 2007
IKEBANA
Jane Redmon, widely known teacher of Ikebana’s Sogetsu School, will introduce and demonstrate this popular and ancient art of Japanese flower arranging.

NOVEMBER 13, 2007
KINGMAN ISLAND
Jeff Lee and Adrienne McCray of Lee & Associates, Landscape Design, present plans for the island’s nature sanctuary and environmental center.

JANUARY 8, 2008
MEMBERS PANEL DISCUSSION ABOUT THEIR OWN GARDENS
Three members will tell us about how they created their gardens, complete with pitfalls, struggles, mistakes – and the odd triumph.

LIVING WALLS & A GREEN ROOF
Landscape Architect Lisa Del Place, President of Ohme van Sweden & Associates, describes new systems for constructing vertical gardens, with an emphasis on sustainability.

MARCH 11, 2008
TREES IN THE CAPITAL CITY
Robert Defeo, National Park Service, will discuss trees in the urban environment, from the Tidal Basin to various memorials, the Mall and the Congressional Garden.

APRIL 8, 2008
CONTINUOUS COLOR
Achieving year-round garden interest – club members present twelve months worth of fabulous ideas – to help you keep the blahs away from your garden.

MAY 13, 2008
MAY GARDEN WALK
EARLY START – 6:30 P.M.
In this Annual Walking Tour of our own neighborhood, members share the beauty of local gardens in springtime.

The club meets at St. Monica’s Episcopal Church, 1340 Massachusetts Ave SE. Enter by the center door and, once inside, go up a few steps to your immediate right.

Refreshments begin at 7 p.m. and the program starts at 7:30 p.m.

Our regular meetings are open to the public at no charge.
